Notes: Joined with the understanding that he was to be transferred to Cavalry before he was mustered in-- this was not done, he was mustered in immediately. About a month later . . . Captain Macon Jordan of Co. D., Ashby's Cavalry offered him a horse, he joined Captain Jordan's Co., and through the aid of General Thomas Jordan was regularly transferred from the 52nd Va. Inf. to Co., D, of Ashby's Cavalry. Jordan recommended him for Capt. over other officers because of his gallantry at Romney W. Va. in Fall 1861. Burned the White House, Columbia, and Conrad Store bridges by order of Gen. Jackson during the Valley campaign
